Long-time Meeker rancher Carl H. Seely, 94, died October 31, 2001, at the Walbridge Memorial Wing.

Mr. Seely was born July 27, 1907 in Castle Dale, Emery County, Utah, the son of Hyrum and Maggie Marie (Larsen) Seely. As a young boy, he worked on the family sheep ranch, and graduated with a degree in accounting from the University of Utah. From 1928 through 1930 he served an Eastern States Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

On July 8, 1931, he was united in marriage to Helen Burnett at the Salt Lake City Temple. Mrs. Seely survives in the family home. The Seely family moved to Meeker in 1942 where they ranched and were active in their church. Mr. Seely was the chairman of the building committee which built the first church house at Park and Ninth. He was a former member of the Oddfellow Lodge; served on the U.S. Forest Service forest advisory board; was a member of the Woolgrowers Association, and the Soil Conservation District. In 1954, he was honored as District Livestockman of the year.

Mr. Seely was an avid gardener and will long be remembered for his beautiful flowers, especially his sweet peas and gladiolus.

In addition to Helen, his wife of 70 years, Mr. Seely is survived by four children; Beverly Jane Burdick, and her husband Eugene of Tucson, Ariz.; Patricia Ann Richardson and her husband John of Rainier, Oreg.; Daniel B. Seely and his wife, Eva, Jerry Carl Seely and his wife Mary Ann, both of Meeker, 14 grandchildren, William Burdick; Robert Burdick; Helen Jane Burrows; Eugene Burdick; Thomas Richardson; Viola Richardson; Anita Goforth; Martin Seely; Karen Peroulis; Justin Seely; Anthony Seely; Michael Seely; Douglas Seely; Carla Sullivan; 34 great-grandchildren and a host of friends and other family members.

His parents have preceded him in death, as have two grandsons, David Seely on June 20, 1999 and George Richardson on April 20, 1976, as well as two sisters, Helen Dahl and Belle Tatton.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 17 at the Meeker Ward Chapel of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Interment was made in the Highland Cemetery.

Friends may make memorial contributions to the Walbridge Memorial Wing through Meeker Mortuary, which has been entrusted with the arrangements.
