Brodheadsville veterinarian Seely remembered as ‘friend to animals’

The animal community is in mourning today as they remember Brodheadsville veterinarian Dr. Britt Seely.

Seely, 58, died this morning after heart bypass surgery.

He had owned and operated the Brodheadsville Veterinary Clinic since 1984.

Carol Fuller remembers Seely as a “good man who cared about animals in the community.”

As president of the Waggin’ Tails pet rescue group, Fuller has worked with him more than 13 years. “He’s been one of the most reasonable and best vets to the rescues,” she said.

Fuller remarked on Seely’s dry sense of humor and he was always willing to work in rescued pets. He didn’t ask upfront for payment. “I’d settle up with him afterwards,” Fuller said.

News of his death prompted more than 45 comments on the Pocono Record’s Facebook page.

One was Kim Fosdal-Sciabica who had been taking her dog to him for 17 years. “He did it for the love of animals and he was a straight shooter.. one of the best vets I’ve ever been to,” Fosdal- Sciabica said.

Kathryn Furney Longo has been taking her pets to Seely since 1993. “He was always so kind to our pets..and us…..in good times and in bad. You always felt he cared,” Longo said, adding, “He cried with us when we lost Blackie. He went out to the car of a friend of mine one time to put her doggie asleep because my friend and her son were crying too hard to get out of the car. And he cried too. We will miss him so much.”

Memorial services will be held at 3: p.m. Monday from the Kresge Funeral Home, 1763 Route 209 Brodheadsville, with Lois Heckman officiating. Cremation will have taken place in the H. G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg. A visitation will be held on Monday from 2 p.m. until the time of the service.
