Ida May Seelye Maack

Ida Maack, 98, of Fergus Falls and formerly of Foxhome died Sunday, June 19, 2016, at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls.

Ida May Seelye Maack was born July 8, 1917, in Alpha, the daughter of Walter and Lena (Adolfs) Seelye. She attended the Elliot, North Dakota, School through the ninth grade.

Ida grew up on a farm near Elliot, first attending the country school across the road from their farm and then entered high school in Elliot. She was no stranger to the farm work, often working in the barn caring for the animals and helping with milking.

She used horses to cut and rake hay and at times rode the horses home from the field standing on their backs. She also herded cows into the winter for her family and some of the neighbors. Riding horseback was one of the best pleasures. She and her brother Bus would ride double over the prairie in Ransom County, she continued riding into her old age and her last ride being at Red Horse Ranch when she was 95.

Ida and John Maack were married April 17, 1937, in Britton, South Dakota. After marrying John, with his three young sons they lived in Andrea Township near Foxhome. They were diversified farmers having crops, animals and dairy.

They raised their family, including another son and three daughters. She continued to live independently on the farm at Foxhome until she was 95. Ida then moved into an apartment in Rothsay for two years before moving to Midwest Home Health where she lived until the time of her passing.

Ida was baptized and confirmed as an adult in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Fergus Falls. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Andrea Homemakers Club, AMA Jets 4-H Leader, Thursday Morning Widows Group and Monday Morning Coffee Time with friends and family. She enjoyed quilting, gardening (especially her lovely flower gardens), reciting and reading poetry, reading, paint-by-number, traveling with friends and family across the USA.

She is survived by five children, Vernon (Beverly) Maack of Alexandria, Janice (Warren Hegelson) Rudh and Robert (Janet) Maack all of Rothsay, Joan Pinkney of Shoreview and Judith (David Emery) Dumke-Emery of Rothsay; daughter-in-law, Etta Maack of Breckenridge; 23 grandchildren, Sharon (Greg) Eide, Michael (Dawn) Maack, Shelly (Ryan) Switters, Steven (Jana) Maack, Jon Maack, Jeanne (Tony) Miranowski, Peggy (Bruce) Barker, Greg (Jodi) Maack, Joel Maack, Peter (Kari) Rudh, Kirsten (Lee) Danielson, Eric (Anthena) Rudh, Emily (Joe Zender) Rudh, Shannon (Rhonda) Maack, Jeremiah (Patty) Maack, Jill (Victor) Pastrana, Jason (Rachel) Pinkney, Tessa Vogel, Lisa (Andrew) Westberg, Joshua (Michelle) Dumke, Keith (Jenni Rosin) Emery, Justin Dumke and Mandy (John) Danielson; 56 great-grandchildren; 22 great-great grandchildren; sister and a step-daughter-in-law, Ethel Maack of Fergus Falls; brother, Clifford (Betty) Seelye of Oakes, North Dakota; special friends, Marlene Maack-Baasch, David Nord, Lucille Miller and Darlene Ehlert and by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
