Businessman Paul Seely Dies At 58

Modesto businessman and property developer Paul H. Seely, 58, died yesterday in a local hospital where he had been confined after suffering an apparent heart attack last Sunday.

He was one of the original owners of McHenry Village shopping center, remaining as general managing director after the property was sold to Southern California interests last October for about $5 million.

A native of Eureka, he had moved to this area after graduating from Stockton High School. He and his brother, Fred A. Seely, now of Pebble Beach, formed an automobile dealership in Oakdale in 1936, moving the dealership to Modesto in 1937, where it was located on G. Street until 1962.

He was associated with construction on 12th Street in downtown Modesto before McHenry Village was developed in 1953. The Village was one of the first shopping centers in the San Joaquin Valley.

He also had served as manager of Fred A. Seely, Inc., which included ownership of the Seely Tower in downtown Modesto.

He was a member of the Del Rio Golf and Country Club.

In addition to his brother, Seely is survived by his widow, Anne Seely; a daughter Karen Seely of Modesto, and a sister, Jacqueline Ball of Pebble Beach.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow in the Franklin & Down Funeral Home. Inurnment in Lakewood Memorial Park will be private.
