Myron Seeley, 78, Northumberland, Spanish War Vet

Myron S. Seeley, of 237 Water Street, Northumberland, died Monday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock in the Milton Convalescent Home where he had been a guest for a few weeks.  He had been in failing health for sometime.  A veteran of the Spanish American War and a retired engineer for the Pennsylvania Railroad, he was 78 years of age.

Prior to his entrance to the Milton Convalescent Home he had been a patient in Community Hospital for treatment after an extended illness.

A life-long resident of Northumberland he was born May 4, 1880, the son of the late Charles and Ellen Renner Seeley.

He enlisted in the United States Army as a young man on September 29, 1898, and served with the army of occupation in Cuba until January 1, 1899.  He served with the 13th Company, coast artillery prior to his discharge.  He received his release from the Army, May 2, 1902.

For 42 years he worked with the Pennsylvania Railroad and retired in 1945 as an engineer.  He was a member of the Northumberland Methodist Church, Northumberland Loyal Order of Moose and Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen No. 263.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Edith McPherson of town in 1955 and a son Randolph who passed away in 1957.

He is survived by two daughters: Mrs. Mary Benson, of York and Mrs. Mabel Diehl, of Northumberland.  Two brothers, Charles Seeley of York, and Harry Seeley, of Northumberland, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11 o’clock from the R. L. Davis and Son funeral home, King and Water Streets, Northumberland.  Rev. Dennis Smith, retired Methodist minister, will officiate and interment will be in the family plot in Riverview Cemetery.  Friends will be received at the funeral home Friday evening.
