Minnie F. Seeley

Sturgis – Minnie F. Seeley, 94, a longtime musician in northern Black Hills communities, died Monday morning at a daughter’s home in Sturgis.

No services will be held.

She was born June 11, 1889, at Castle Rock, Colo., to James and Adele Adams.  She attended Castle Rock schools and was a musician for the Epworth League and for several lodges as well as dance bands.  She also taught piano for several years and was a telephone operator in Denver.

On Dec. 8, 1908, she married Frank P. Seeley at Neligh, Neb.  They lived at Elgin, Neb., until moving to Newell in 1914.  In 1930, they moved to a ranch seven miles north of Sturgis and lived there until he died in November 1939.

After her husband’s death, she worked as a hospital aide in South Dakota, Montana and Washington, then lived with a daughter at Belle Fourche.

Surviving are a son, Donald Seeley of Granite Falls, Minn.; two daughters, Maxine Bovee of Belle Fourche and Alice Tennis of Sturgis; one grandson and two great-granddaughters.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one daughter and one grandson.
