Seeley, retired UA professor, dies

Memorial services for Millard G. Seeley, a University of Arizona professor emeritus of chemistry, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Bring’s Memorial Chapel, 236 S. Scott Ave.

Seeley, 67, died Saturday at St. Joseph’s Hospital after suffering a heart attack.

He was a graduate of Tucson High School and the UA.  He received his doctorate in chemistry from Stanford University.  He taught at the UA for 37 years, retiring in 1980.

While at the UA, Seeley was director of the National Science Foundation institutes which were held there for many years.  He also was involved in regional science fairs for Southern Arizona.

He was a past president of the Arizona Science Teachers’ Association and had served as a consultant to the chemistry teachers who set up advanced placement programs.

His awards included one from the Tucson Education Association for special services to elementary and secondary schools and a special award from the Arizona Academy of Science for his contributions to science educators.

He is survived by two sisters, Mildred Seeley and Geraldine Baldwin, both of Tucson.  A scholarship fund is being established in Seeley’s name at the UA.

Seeley and Geraldine Baldwin, both of Tucson; cousin of Blanche Smith of Cochise and Blanche Curtis of Phoenix.  Funeral services, 6:30 p.m., Friday, May 27 at Bring’s Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Howard R. Higgins, George Bazzetta and Dr. Cornelius Steelink officiating.  Interment of cremains will be in Evergreen Cemetery.  Family requests donations to the Millard G. Seeley Memorial fund, c/o University of Arizona Foundation, 1027 E. Second St., Tucson, AZ 85721.  Arrangements by Bring’s Memorial Chapel, 236 S. Scott.
