Mildred Seeley

Native Tucsonan, Mildred Seeley, dies

Mildred Seeley, a Tucson native who taught in public schools for 39 years, died Tuesday of heart failure at a convalescent center.  She was 80.

Seeley was born in September 1909 in a fort near the current intersection of East Broadway and Fourth Avenue.

Seeley earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Arizona, and attended some post graduate classes at the University of Michigan.

She began her career with Tucson schools as an elementary teacher at Carillo School, now Carillo Intermediate School.  She later taught at Roskruge Bilingual Middle School and Vail Middle School.  She retired from teaching in 1972.

She is survived by her sister, Geraldine Baldwin of Tucson.

Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. at Bring’s Memorial Chapel, 236 S. Scott Ave.
