John Smith SEELY, 74, died last evening in his Carmel home at Carpenter street and 3rd avenue, following an extended illness.

Mr. SEELY was born April 16, 1885, in Arcata and until his retirement was in the men’s clothing business there, in Modesto and in other California cities. His marriage to Miss Alice FOSTER took place in Arcata July 25, 1907.

Before moving to Carmel 2 ½ years ago, the couple lived in Modesto, where Mr. SEELY was a member of Lodge 675, F&AM. He belonged also to the High Twelve Club of Carmel.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Fred A. SEELY of Pebble Beach and Modesto and Paul H. SEELY of Modesto; a daughter, Mrs. J. O. BALL of Coronado; a brother, Charles H. SEELY of Willow Creek; a sister, Mrs. O. H. HANSEN of San Francisco; and seven grandchildren. Mr. SEELY was the brother of the late Henry and F. H. SEELY.

Private funeral services will be held at 4pm tomorrow in the Little Chapel-by-the-Sea with the Rev. David Hill of All Saints’ Episcopal Church officiating. The Paul Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
