Emily Alice Barton Seely

Mt. Pleasant – Mrs. Emily Alice Barton Seely, wife of Moroni Seely, died at the family home in Sterling, Canada, Friday, after a long illness, relatives here are informed.  The body will be brought to Mt. Pleasant next week for interment.

Mrs. Seely was born in Bountiful, May 2, 1850.  Her parents John and Susannah Wilkinson Barton, were among the earliest Utah settlers.  She was married to Moroni Seely in the Endowment house in Salt Lake, April 18,1872.  They lived in Indianalo for several years, coming to Mt. Pleasant to make their home in the late seventies.  In 1902 they moved to Sterling, Canada, where they held large farming and carrel interests.

She is survived by her husband and seven sons and daughters; Mrs. Alif Ericksen, Mrs. Clara Nelson, Mrs. Verda Fawns, Cyrus M., Orson R., Geoerge L. and Arta J. Seely, all of Sterling, Canada.  Tweo brothers, A.S. and Oscar Barton of Mt. Pleasant, also survive her.  One son, Mell Gay Seely, lost his life in the Castlegate mine disaster.

Funeral for Mrs. Seely

Funeral services for Mrs. Emily Alice Barton Seely, wife of Moroni Seely, who died Friday, January 17th at her home in Stirling, Alberta, Canada, were held Friday at 2 p.m. in the North ward chapel in this city with Bishop Henry P. Olson in charge.

The choir sang, “Tho Deepening Trials,” “Guide Me to Thee,” and “O My Father.”  Other musical numbers were vocal solo, “I’m A Pilgrim,” Mrs. Obed Nelson; vocal solo “Face to Pace,” Mrs. Harry G> Ericksen.

The invocation was offered by Christian Johansen and President Soren M. Neilson gave the closing prayer.

The speakers were Edgar McArthur of Provo, President H.C. Jacobs and Bishop Henry P. Olsen.

Mads Anderson dedicated the grave.
