Publication Doreen Seelye, 53, of Bena, died Sunday, Sept. 5, at the Deer River Healthcare Center of Deer River, Minn.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at the Bena Community Center, with the Rev. George Ross and the Rev. John Rock officiating. A wake will begin at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at the Bena Community Center and will continue until the time of the service. Interment will be in the Lakeview Cemetery of Bena, under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Cass Lake.

Active pallbearers will be Josh Briski, Sam Cleveland, Ben Moe, Jeremy Swan Sr., Jason Swan and Rey Swan. Honorary pallbearers will be Jamie Chase; three special friends, Bonnie Seelye, Terri Stauffer, Brooke Frazer; and all of her brothers and sisters.

She was born on Sept. 25, 1956, to Maynard Swan and Cleo Armstrong, in White Earth. She attended schools in Pine Point, Park Rapids and graduated from Cass Lake-Bena. She married Eugene “Sonny” Seelye in 1977, and they lived in Cass Lake and Bena. They had two sons, Jesse and Justin “Jamie” Sr. She worked for the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe as a secretary and then worked at the Bena Store. She enjoyed reading, watching movies and going to the casino. In her younger years she liked picking blueberries, ricing, fishing, getting wood and hunting. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and showing pictures of them.

She is survived by her sons; mother; mother-in-law, Luella Seelye; brothers, Donald (Tammi) Armstrong Sr., Michael (Audrey) Swan, Delmar (Doris) Jones II, Joe Jones Sr., Bill Jones, Lanny (Jennifer) Seelye, Davy Seelye; sisters, Patricia (Warren) Strom, Vicki Swan, Beverly (Milton) Swan, Julie (Terry) Jones, Peggy Truer; step-father, Delmar Jones Sr.; four grandchildren; three special friends; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father; husband; sister, Pattie Sue Jones; brothers, Oran Jones, George Jones, Howard Jones; father-in-law; sister-in-law; and a grandson.
