Dick Zane Sealy

December 23, 1933 – September 25, 2011

Dick Z. Sealy, 77, a retired Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer died Sunday night at Providence Hospital in Waco while awaiting open heart surgery. Mr. Sealy was born December 23, 1933 in Hermleigh, Texas. He graduated from Snyder High School in 1952 and entered the United States Navy. Mr. Sealy is a Vietnam Veteran and among many other assignments served nine tours of duty as Flight Engineer on the P-3 Orion aircraft. After 24 years in the Navy, he retired from military service and moved to Dumas, TX. He earned his teaching certificate for Texas and set up the CVAE General Mechanic Repair class for the Dumas ISO where he worked for 5 years. Mr. Sealy gave up his teaching career to follow his wife Mary throughout her military service in the Army. He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers A.B., Bob, and Jim Sealy. Survivors include his wife Mary, 2 sons Jim Aaron and LTC Randy Sealy and his wife Sharon Wheeler Sealy and 4 grandchildren; TeJissa, Brandon, and Jack and Jenna Sealy; 1 great grandchild Avery Sealy; one brother Don and his wife Gwen Sealy of Snyder, Texas and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Sealy enjoyed mechanical things. He could make any engine run and could “putter” for hours in that task. Dick was very involved in scouting as both scoutmaster and father. With Jim Aaron he went on several “50” miler canoe trips in California. He was an inspiration for his son Randy guiding him toward the rank of Eagle Scout. Dick loved the military and had a deep respect for those who served their country. While his wife was stationed in Hawaii, he was a volunteer for the USO and became Volunteer of the Year for 1987. Dick was a life-time mem ber of the American Legion and kept current his membership in the VFW. The students from his classes in CVAE labeled him “The Best Damned Teacher” they ever had. Mr. Sealy loved observing people and making up stories about where they might be going and what they might be going to do. His daily routine included putting on his suspenders and driving in to Hamilton for lunch at Hamburger Hill. Dick loved our dogs but especially his “one-eyed Jake” and little “Cowboy” made him laugh with his “singing”. Dick kept special ladies in Hamilton with flowers of appreciation on holidays and their smiles made his days special. Services will be at Riley Funeral Home on Thursday September 29th at 10:00am with interment at the Texas State Veteran’s Cemetery, Ft. Hood, Texas. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Sealy can be made to Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch and Girlstown, U.S.A. P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174.
