ASHLAND — Clara M. Cilley, 81, of 16 North Ave., died May 25, 2005, at Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia, after a period of failing health.

Born in Ashland Aug. 8, 1923, she was the daughter of Samuel D. and Emma (Cross) Marcroft.

She was a lifelong Ashland resident. She attended Ashland schools and graduated from Ashland High School in 1941. She furthered her education at Concord College of Business, graduating in 1942.

She married John Cilley on April 17, 1948.

She was a secretary at the office of Dr. Samuel Fiener and was also a local Avon representative.

She was a librarian at the Ashland Town Library until her retirement.

She was a past Matron of The Eastern Star and a past member of the Ashland Women’s Club. She also volunteered as a Girl Scout leader.

She was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church in Ashland since 1936, where she taught Sunday school for many years and sang in the choir.

The family includes her husband, of Ashland; a son, Alan Cilley of New Hampton; a daughter, Janet Sherburne of Rumney; six grandchildren; a brother, Arthur Marcroft of Ashland; and nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Dupuis Funeral Home, Hill Avenue, Ashland. The funeral is Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Free Will Baptist Church, Main Street, Ashland. The Rev. Everett Palmer will officiate. Burial will follow at Green Grove Cemetery, Ashland.
