BLANCO-Carol Jean Sealy, 59, of Blanco, Texas, died on Thanksgiving Day, 2014, of complications from a long history of rheumatoid arthritis and its medications. She was born on Jan. 30, 1955, to George A. and Bennie Sealy and was the third girl joining her sisters, Sidney and Laura. She attended New Home Schools and was a fierce athletic competitor. She is considered one of the best basketball players to have attended school there and was selected to play in the Texas All Star tournament her Senior year after returning from an International vacation in Afghanistan with her mother and a visit to her sister, Sidney in the PeaceCorp. After graduation, she attended and graduated from Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas, with a teaching certificate and BS in physical education. Carol began her teaching career in Texas at Roosevelt High School in San Antonio but soon traveled to an international teaching position by joining the Department of Defense as a teacher in their schools who serve children of service men and women. She taught in Germany and served as athletic director at the SHAPE international base in Belgium. Although she had no children of her own, she has many international students who continued to be a part of her life and will miss her greatly. While in Europe, she enjoyed traveling to many foreign lands including Malaysia, Egypt, Australia, France, Greece, Italy, England and Crete and meeting people from every venue. After her retirement she revisited some students and continued to enjoy travel as a hobby. Carol and her sister, Laura and her husband, Larry Fierro have lived near Blanco, Texas, for many years. She loved the hill country and had numerous friends in the area. Carol is survived by her mother, Bennie Sealy; her sister, Sidney and husband, Mark Dorsett MD; nephew, Matthew Dorsett and wife, Jennifer; nephew, Jordan Dorsett and wife, Mackenzie; sister, Laura Fierro and husband, Larry; niece, Rachelle Link and husband, Gene; great-nephew, Heath Link; great-niece, Ashton Link; and niece, Leslie Nettles. She was preceded in death by her father, George A. Sealy. There will be a remembrance of Carol’s life at the New Home community center Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, from 2 to 4 p.m. Please join us in the come and go celebration. Carol donated her body to Texas State anthropology research in a last unselfish act to help others. Carol lived her life well as evidenced by the many friends and family that will mourn her early passing.
