Augustus J. Seeley

Augustus J. Seeley, 53, service manager for the McRorie-Sautter Motor Co. Inc., died suddenly Tuesday evening in St. Luke’s Hospital.

Mr. Seeley, a pioneer in the automobile business, was taken ill Thanksgiving Day at his home, 2323 Munset, and was removed to the hospital where he suffered a stroke Saturday night.

He was born in Stratford, a son of the late William J. Seeley and Florence Folts Seeley.  After coming to Utica, he worked for a number of years as a mechanic in the garage operated by George Sherman.

Later, he entered the employ of Kenyon Motor Sales on Elizabeth St.  About 15 years ago he bought out his employers and moved the business to Hotel St.  He continued in that location as local distributor for Sterns-Knight automobiles until 10 years ago when he became service manager for McRorie-Sautter.

Mr. Seeley had long been active in Centenary Methodist Church affairs and for a quarter of a century served as church treasurer.  He was a member of Liberty Lodge, F&AM, and was a former member of Utica Kiwanis Club.

In 1905 he married Edith Dodge, who survives.  He also leaves his mother, one son, Sherrill J. Seeley, and a grandson, James Seeley, all of Utica.
