Alzina Grace (Beckwith) Seeley

Alzina Grace (Beckwith) Seeley “Beckie”, was reunited with her late husband, Quinten Eugene Seeley, upon arrival in the Church Triumphant, in the early morning hours of Friday, August 7, 2020. Beckie was born January 26, 1925 in Owosso, Michigan.

She graduated from high school in 1943 in Corunna, Michigan and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Asbury College in 1947. She earned her teacher’s certification from Akron University and taught high school English at York School from 1947 to 1952. She wed Quinten Seeley in 1950.

Beckie felt most “at home” at First Baptist Church in Medina and served faithfully in many areas of ministry. She established the nursery, organized and maintained the church library, taught neighborhood children’s After School Bible Club as well as High School Sunday School for eight years and annual Vacation Bible School. In her later years, she also worked actively with the Junior High youth. Beckie loved missions and enjoyed opening her home to missionaries during First Baptist’s yearly Missionary Conference. She never shied away from serving a meal from her guest’s country of origin. Even in her 80’s Beckie enjoyed traveling with First Baptist church on short term mission trips, one to Kenya, Africa. She hosted a foreign exchange student from Japan for a year and opened her home to the homeless. From 1981 to 2006 Beckie led Sunday evening services for female inmates at the Medina County Jail. She was also a member of the Auxiliary of the Gideons International and served on the local cabinet in addition to serving for five years on the State Cabinet of the Ohio Auxiliary of Gideons as scripture secretary/treasurer. She was also a member of the Honor Circle of the King’s Daughters and Sons since 1955.

Beckie was preceded in death by her mother, Grace (Spiegel) Beckwith; father, Bidger Beckwith; little sister, Armina Beckwith; brother, Bob Beckwith and last, but not least, her husband, Quinten. Beckie and Quinten enjoyed many years of traveling together before his death in 1990.

Beckie never took anything for granted and exemplified the wisdom of looking deeper before accepting anything at face value. She was a mother who lovingly afforded her children every opportunity and instilled in them the same love for the church and passion for ministry.

Beckie is survived by her son, Mark Seeley (Nancy) of Charlotte, North Carolina; daughter, Lori Hahalyak of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; grandchildren are Mark Seeley II (Christie), Katherine Tolbert (Brian), Lauren Palmer (Joel), Andrew Seeley (Merredith), Michael Hahalyak and John Hahalyak; 10 great-grandchildren and brother, Harold Beckwith.
