Last Rites For Pioneer Held

Funeral at Covina for A.M. Seeley, Valley Rancher, Who Died Mar. 15

Covina, March 21 – Last rites were held at the local Christian church Wednesday afternoon for A.M. Seeley, 69 year old pioneer rancher of this valley, who passed away Sunday evening at his summer cottage at Hermosa Beach.  He had been in failing health for more than a year and his death was not unexpected.

Mr. Seeley had been an active member of the Covina Christian church for thirty-three years and the present pastor, Rev. W. Dow Crewdson conducted the funeral service, being assisted by Rev. J.W. Utter, a former pastor and a warm personal friend of the deceased.

The deceased was a railroad man during his early manhood until he sustained injuries in a wreck which necessitated the amputation of one of his limbs.  It was for the benefit of his health that Mr. Seeley came to California.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Alice Atchison Seeley, their daughter, Miss Margaret Seeley, of Berkeley, who was present for the services.  His aged mother lives in Los Angeles and a sister, Mrs. Emma Javobs, lives in Kansas City.

Mr. Seeley was an active member of the Knights of Pythias and also the Odd Fellows until his health failed.

Last Rites for Pioneer Covinan

Last rites were held Wednesday afternoon for A.M. Seeley, 69, pioneer rancher in this valley, whose death, following an extended illness, occurred Sunday evening at Hermosa Beach.

Services were held in the local Christian church with Rev. W. Dow Crewdson and Rev. J.M. Utter of Ontario officiating. Interment was made at Oakdale cemetery.

Pallbearers were C.P. Speer, Henry Van Ginkel, H.T. Headley, D.F. Stafford, J.O. Houser and O.W. Prescott.

Mr. Seeley came to California in 1895 and settled in Covina, where he was engaged in the Citrus industry until the advent of his illness. He was an active member of K.P. and Odd Fellows lodges and was living on Cypress avenue.

Besides his widow, Mrs. Alice Atkinson Seeley, the deceased leaves his mother, one daughter, Margaret, and one sister.
