HERRING – SEELY

Miss Joan R. Seely became the bride of Donald W. Herring at noon on Saturday, July 8, in Saint Charles Borromeo church in Dover Plains. The Reverand John Larkin officiated at the ceremony. Mrs. Patrick Harkins presided at the organ and accompanied the soloists, Mrs. Frank Scott. The church was decorated with bouquets of white gladioli.

Mr. and Mrs. James L. Seely of Elizabethtown, New York are the bride’s parents. Mr. Herring is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Herring of Wasaic, New York.

Given in Marriage by her father, the bride had Mrs. James Barber of Albany as matron of honor. Bridesmaids were Mrs. Richard Wamsley, Dover Plains; Mrs. Donald Van Wagner, Amenia; Mrs. William Denton, Elizabethtown; and Mrs. Edward Catiado, Lyons Falls, New York.

The bride wore an heirloom gown of ivory dutchess satin, princess style, with a fitted bodice and full shirt, sweetheart neckline trimmed with seed pearls, Gibson sleeves and a demi-train. Her illusion veil of tulle draped from a cap of Carickmacross lace was a fingertip length. She carried a white missal with a cover corsage of white roses and stephanotis with orchid center.

The honor attendant wore a ballerina length gown of deep water aqua eyelet over silk with a jewel neckline. Her headpiece was a circular veil of the same color attached to a rose whimsy. Her flowers were a cascade of yellow daisies. The bridesmaids’ gowns were similar, only in summer pink; and they wore matching clothes. They carried cascades of aqua daisies.

Mrs. Seely chose a summer pink sheath gown of silk organza embroidered with seed pearls and sequins, having a side drape. The bridegroom’s mother’s dress was ice blue with a lace insert. Both mothers wore white accessories and had corsages of pink roses.

Mr. Francis Foley of Amenia was the best man. The head usher was Robert Sullivan also of Amenia. Patrick Caldar, Amenia; Warren Rozelle, Dover Plains; and William Smith Jr., Wassaic also ushered.

The reception was given at the Amenia Fish and Game Club, which was beautifully decorated by Mrs. Richard Wamsley and other friends. For travel, the bride wore a white sheath dress with contrasting accessories and an orchid corsage. Mr. and Mrs. Herring will be at home to all their friends after July 25.
