Imogene “Gene” Seeley Coleman Brown, 90,
of Pensacola, Fla., died June 6, 2001, in Pensacola.

She was born Sept. 16, 1910, in Harbor Springs, the daughter of Arthur and Minnie (Adair) Seeley. She grew up in Harbor Springs where she attended and graduated from high school in 1929. She then attended one year of nursing school in Madison, Wis.

In November of 1951, she married Clayton “Brownie” Brown of Petoskey in Miami, Fla. He preceded her in death.

Gene was a cook and had operated a restaurant and bakery at different times in Harbor Springs. She had also worked at resorts and golf courses in Harbor Springs, Florida, Arizona and Texas.

Gene liked to deer hunt and enjoyed traveling. She was a friend of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Pensacola.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia A. Place, of Pensacola, Fla.; five grandchildren, Patrick Place of Coloma, Mich., Betsy Phillips of Germantown, Md., Jeanne Place of Shepherd Air Force, Base, Texas, Nora Morbeck of Marietta, Ga., and Andy Place of Boyne City; nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews, including Gene Seeley of East Jordan.

Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s research.

A family memorial service will be held in Boyne City in October.
