ROBERT SEELEY DIES AT SPRINGDALE

SPRINGDALE, April 28 – Funeral services for Robert Seeley, 77 years of age, who died Monday morning at 2 o’clock at his home on Johnson Street, were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. M.L. McDowell with burial in the National Cemetery at Fayetteville.

Mr. Seeley was precariously ill with pneumonia and heart trouble in March but recovered.

Mr. Seeley was born in Berlin, Wisconsin, November 2, 1848.  At the age of fifteen he ran away from home and joined the army, serving 19 months, and received his discharge at the war’s close.  He was in the 7th Minnesota Infantry.  On September 27, 1871, he was married to Estella Pomeroy at Farin Hill, Minn., and with his bride lived at Mazeppa, Minn., and moved from that place to Dunlap, Tenn., where for four years he engaged in the hardware and furniture business.  He next moved to Butler Mo., where he resided with his family for a year, when he moved to Springdale, thrity-two years ago.

Mr. Seeley’s father was Ira O. Seeley and his mother Sarah Loveland.  He has served several terms as city alderman and his last active vocation was that of carpenter.  He belonged to the Masonic Lodge but had never joined a church organization.  He was one of seven children, two brothers, Frank and Albert, and one sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Davis, being deceased.  A brother, Elmer Seeley resides in Merwin, Mo., and a sister, Mrs. Emma Bonney, lives in Los Angeles.  Another sister, Mrs. Nellie McClellan, lives in Mazeppa, Minn.

To Mr. and Mrs. Seeley were born seven children, two daughters, Essie and Inize died in infancy and a son, Willie, died at the age of seven.  Surviving are three sons and one daughter.  The sons are: Clarence and Ira of Los Angeles, Cal., Worden of Red Wing, Minn., and the daughter is Mrs. Maude Cooper of Stuart, Iowa.  Sixteen grandchildren and two great-grandchildren also survive.
