July 2, 1943 – December 6, 2012

Wood River Robert A. Seely, 69, passed away at 3:20 am Thursday December 6, 2012 at home with his family by his side while under the care of BJC Hospice. He was born on July 2, 1943 in Gettysburg, South Dakota, the son of Floyd & Alice (Bevers) Seely. He married Verla Farmer on September 17, 1966 in Alton. She survives. He worked for National Maintenance as a diesel mechanic for 34 years and was a member of the Boilermakers Union Local 482. He loved to go Pheasant Hunting in South Dakota with his sons, sons-in-law and grandchildren and camping with his wife and friends. He was an avid NASCAR fan and St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and loved to watch his grandkids play sports. He is survived by his wife, Verla Seely of Wood River, a son and daughter-in-law, Robert A. Jr. & Traci Seely of Bethalto, two daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanne & Bryan Null of Bethalto, and Tammy & John Tassinari of Moro; five grandchildren, Christopher Tassinari, Logan and Ryan Null, and Tyler and Taylor Seely; one sister, Norma Elliott of Wood River; and his lifetime friends, Gene & Jan Goodman of Carlinville. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by two sisters, Doris Todd and Becky Weddle. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Friday December 7, 2012 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto where Funeral Services will be held at 11 am Saturday December 8, 2012 with Reverend Kimberly Allen officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Memorials may be made to BJC Hospice.
