Richard M. Seeley

Richard M. Seeley, 66, of Battle Creek, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2000 in Battle Creek Health Systems.

He was born Oct. 9, 1933 in Battle Creek to Harley R. and Margaret H. (Whelan) Seeley.

He graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1951 and attended Western Michigan University for three years.

He worked in building maintenance at Kellogg’s for 23 years retiring in 1996.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict from 1956 to 1958 and received an honorable discharge in 1960.

He married Jong Soon Kwak in Seoul, Korea in April 1958.  She preceded him in death on July 19, 1995.

He is survived by a daughter Kim S. Seeley of Battle Creek; sons Harley J. Seeley of Lansing and Terry R. Seeley of Marshall; three grandchildren; and his mother.

He was preceded in death by his father on May 21, 1954, and his stepfather John F. Smithson on April 21, 1973.

Community involvement, hobbies: Was a member of the First Church of Christ Science and the Westlake Presbyterian Church.  Enjoyed fishing, gold and traveling with his wife.

Visitation:  After 5 p.m. Monday where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. at Farley-Estes and Dowdle Funeral Home.

Services: 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Former First Reader Bruce Taylor officiating.

Burial: Oak Hill Cemetery with honors.

Memorials: Muscular Dystrophy Association or the American Heart Association.
