Richard A. Seeley of Middleboro and formerly of Stoughton, passed away January 8, after a lengthy illness while in the comforts of his family.
Richard grew up in Everett and after finishing trade school, he joined the US Coast Guard in 1948. Richard served aboard the CGC Eastwind in Greenland during the Korean War and served for six years. Richard met his beloved wife, Hazel J. Ryan at a dance in Chelsea. They got married March 1952 and celebrated sixty-six years together. They settled in Stoughton where they raised their children. Richard was a hard worker and gifted mechanic who was employed with the MBTA for over 30 years before retirement. In his younger years Richard enjoyed gardening, bowling and working around the house. Later when his children owned houses of their own, he was often the “General Contractor” of choice. Richard was very patriotic and it would be no surprise for him to start singing any one of his favorite patriotic songs at family gatherings.
He was the loving husband of Hazel J. (Ryan) Seeley of Middleboro, and devoted father of Loreen M. Kelso and her husband Robert of Bridgewater, Linda A. Baron of Marshfield, Karen M. Sechovicz and her husband Stephen of Kingston, Mark R. Seeley and his wife Alison of Canton. Super “Pa” of Timothy, Nicole, Ryan, Matthew and Elizabeth. And “Pa-G” of Peyton, Riley, Hadley, Zoey and Seeley. Brother of John Seeley of FL, Robert Seeley of ME, Rosemary Gray of MO, and the late Owen E. Seeley.
A Celebration of Richard’s life will be held April 6 at the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. Bridgewater.
