Rev. Dr. Richard A. Seeley

The Rev. Dr. Richard A. Seeley, 82, passed away on June 15, 2017. Mr. Seeley was born in Laconia, NH. He graduated from Laconia High School and received a B.A. Degree from Gordon College in 1957. He attended Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1960 and received a B.D. He was granted a Master of Divinity degree in 1973, and a Doctor of Ministry from Eastern in 1987. Mr. Seeley is survived by his wife, Sherideth Cram Seeley, formerly of Pittsfield, NH, their three children: two sons in CT, Calvin and wife Alisa, Karl and wife Jean, and a daughter, Ruth Smith, and husband Stephen from NH. Mr. Seeley has six grandchildren and two great grandsons. He was predeceased by a brother, Milton Seeley, and is survived by a brother Elden Seeley, a sister Elizabeth Mitchell, and nieces and nephews. Mr. Seeley was an Eagle Scout and earned the God and Country award. He was ordained to the Christian Ministry in June 1960. He pastored the Georgia Plains Baptist Church (VT), the First Baptist Church in Hanover, MA, the Baptist Church of Warren in (RI), the Bristol Baptist Church in (CT), and the First Baptist Church of Endicott, NY. Mr. Seeley was active in the community, promoting programs to meet the needs of the citizens. He was involved with the wider mission of the church and served on many boards and committees for the American Baptist Church on the local, state, and national levels. He was active in ecumenical work. He also served as a counselor and director at many youth camps. He was published in Foundations journal. He wrote a book on children’s sermons called, How Nice For You To Be In Church. He wrote” A Baptist Catechism” and “The Marriage Manual of the Pastor.” He traveled extensively (US, Europe, and the Middle East). Hobbies included painting, gardening, boating, playing piano, and spending time with his family. Calling hours will be at Funk’s Funeral Home, 35 Bellevue Ave; Bristol June 16, from 7-9 PM. A Memorial Service will be held June 17 at 11 AM at First Baptist Church, 90 North Main St., West Hartford. In honor of Richard’s appreciation for his education at Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary a Merit Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established at Eastern in his name. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Eastern University, 1300 Eagle Road, St. David’s, PA 19087 (note his name on the memo line).
