CHARLESTON, IL – Raymond Harold Seeley, age 93 of Charleston, entered his Heavenly Home on Sunday, May 13, 2018 while at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Adams Funeral Chapel in Charleston.  The Funeral Service honoring and celebrating his life will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, with Reverend Chuck Trent officiating.  Burial, with military rites, will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon.  It is requested that donations in his honor be made to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life of Coles County or the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592.  Gifts may be left at the visitation or service or mailed in care of Adams Funeral Chapel, 2330 Shawnee Dr., Charleston, IL 61920.

Ray was born May 22, 1924 in Harvey, Illinois the son of the late James and Mabel (Anderson) Seeley.  He attended a country school near Lerna, Illinois before enlisting with the United States Army, faithfully serving his country during WWII.  Ray married Alice M. (Hayes) Warman on October 14, 1977 at the Charleston Otterbein United Methodist Church and they have shared 40 wonderful years of marriage.  In addition to his loving and devoted wife, he is survived by three sons, John (Penny) Seeley of Hendersonville, North Carolina, Ron Seeley of Fisher, Illinois and Jim (Dortha) Seeley of Middletown, Illinois; two stepsons, Clyde (Trish) Warman of Bullhead City, Arizona and Darrell (Debbie) Warman of Charleston; seven grandchildren, Kayela (Eric) Hill, Jessica Seeley, Eddie (Meghan) Seeley, Beth (Matt) Hedges, Amy Warman, Clyde Warman, Jr. and Angela Warman; twelve great-grandchildren, Mikala, Roger, Noah, Cody, Cheyenne, Collin, Seth, Devon, Ericha, Damon, Darren and Danae; seven great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Phyllis Christoff of McDonald, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.  Ray was also preceded in death by a sister, Wilma Pedigo and two daughters-in-law, Judy Seeley and Kim Seeley.

Ray was employed for more than 30 years with the USDA Soil and Water Conservation.  He was a member of the Otterbein United Methodist Church in Charleston; a Life Member of the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592; the Charleston Moose Lodge #1388; and a former member of the Charleston Elks Club B.P.O.E. #623.

Ray loved being outdoors and enjoyed activities such as boating, camping, fishing and tending to his vegetable garden.  His fondness for traveling was shared by Alice, and their travels to the western states, including Alaska and Hawaii, were memorable.  Ray and Alice enjoyed many close friendships and evenings spent around the card table.  He felt blessed to be a cancer survivor and cherished every opportunity to spend time with his family, whom he dearly loved.

Funeral Service
The funeral service for Ray Seeley was held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Adams Funeral Chapel with Reverend Chuck Trent officiating.  Musical selections included “How Great Thou Art”, “Mansion Over The Hilltop”, “My Old Man” and “I Miss My Friend”.  Burial, with military rites conducted by the Charleston VFW Paul McVey Post 1592 and Charleston American Legion Post 93 combined honor guard, followed in Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon.  Participating were: Phil Kerz, Detail Commander; Dale Downs, Chaplain; Max Carpenter and Darrell Nees, Color Guard; Hugh Birch, Color Bearer; Chet Campbell, Bugler; John Richardson, Paul Buerster, Gary Grounds, David Finley and Eugene Winnett, Riflemen.  PFC Taylor Sullivan and PFC Brayden Woolard of the Illinois National Guard Military Funeral Detail from Decatur, Illinois served as Flag Detail.  Pallbearers were: Chuck Buckler, Rich Buckler, Andy Cerven, Eric Hill, Darren Ledbetter and Darrell Warman.  Honorary Pallbearers were Jim Seeley, John Seeley, Ron Seeley and Noah Seeley.
