Ray Seeley Services Thursday

Businessman Here Many Years Dies Tuesday

Funeral services for pioneer Arkansas City businessman, Ray Seeley, 76, 606 South A St., who died Tuesday in Memorial Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the First United Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Arnold W. Langenberg officiating.

Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, under the direction of the Erdman-Oldroyd Funeral Chapel.

He was born March 8, 1891, at Burlington, Kan., to Myron E. Seeley and Frances Amanda Sherwood Seeley.

Seeley, a resident of Arkansas City since 1909, entered the music business here in 1910, operating the Seeley Music Store at 207 E. Madison Ave., until his retirement in April, 1966, after more than 56 years in the business.

He married Myrtle Ivy Brewer, April 7, 1912, in Arkansas City.  Prior to their marriage, Mrs. Seeley taught school in Butler County, near Latham, from 1909 until 1912.  The couple made their home at 111 N. Third St. following their marriage, and moved to the present home at 606 South A St., six months later.

He was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church, and until ill health forced his activity, had been a member of the Arkansas City Lions Club and the Kiwanis Club.

Survivors are his wife, Myrtle Ivy, of the home: and two daughters, Mrs. Geraldine B. Gilstrap, 1102 N. Eighth St., and Mrs. Ray (Ernestine M.) Clark, 914 W. Birch Ave., five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Prior to his illness, Seeley was also active as a member of the Retail Credit Association, Chamber of Commerce, and the Country Club.
