THE LATE JOHN W. SEELY

John W. Seely died at his home in Nescopeck on Jan. 28, 1904, aged 73 years, 11 months and 5 days.  Mr. Seely was an industrious, honest, useful and highly respected man.  Early in life he united with the Lutheran Church and was an active energetic member of the same will the close of his life.  He was the first burgess elected in the borough of Nescopeck and also served in the office of justice of the peace.  He was treasurer of the Nescopeck Fire Insurance Co. for over twenty-five years and resigned the office on Jan. 11, 1904. His life was that of a well-to-do farmer.  His funeral took place on Feb. 1, Rev. Mr. Cadman of the M.E. Church and Rev. Mr. Junkie of the Lutheran Church officiating.  Interment was at Sloyerville.

Mr. Seely was happy in his marriage relation, having been joined in wedlock with Margaret Raber, daughter of Michael Raber in 1853.  On July 17, 1903, he and his wife celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at the home of their son Floyd, who resides at the Michael Raber homestead, in which they were married fifty years before.  His wife and their six children survive: William J. Seely, Walter E. Seely and Mrs. J.G. Myers of Briggsville, E. Floyd Seely and Mrs. Dr. J.J. Myers of Nescopeck and Prof. John H. Seely of Scranton.  He is also survived by several Crothers and twenty-one grandchildren.
