Phyllis Seely of Saint John, wife of Delbert Seely, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 03, 2013 at the St. John and St. Stephen Church Home. Born in Woodstock, NB on July 9, 1920, she was a daughter of the late Ward and Florence (Hawkins) Clark. Phyllis spent the greater part of her life in Saint John. After graduation from Saint John High School, she attended the Provincial Normal School and taught school in various areas of the province; thus began her life-long interest in children. She became aware of children with learning disabilities and was one of the founders of the New Brunswick Diagnostic Centre for Learning Disabilities under the sponsorship of the Provincial Chapter of the IODE. She was a former member of the Sir Douglas Hazen Chapter of the IODE and served at Primary, Municipal, and Provincial levels. She was a long time and active member of Germain Street Baptist Church, and served on the Board of Deacons. Phyllis was a social member of the Westfield Golf and Country Club, a former member of the Union Club, the Carleton Curling Club, the Gyrette Club, the Saint John Regional Hospital Auxiliary, and the Sand Point Outing Association.
