Glenna Virginia “Ginny” Seely

Glenna Virginia “Ginny” Seely, 78, died April 4, 2009, at GrandWood Sunrise Assisted Living.

She was born June 16, 1930, in Joplin, Mo., the daughter of William Harry and Florence Pearl Deems. She spent her childhood in Pittsburg, Kan., with two sisters and lots of cousins. Her father worked for the Kansas City Southern Railroad and her mother fed the workers up and down the rails, which instilled a lifelong love of anything to do with trains, especially KCS and all train stations.

In 1947, she married Kenneth E. Seely of McCune, Kan., and they moved north to the Kansas City area. After several years, they added four boys to the family and moved to Louisburg in 1966 to raise their family “in the country.” She and her husband were members of the First Christian Church of Louisburg, where their family has shared their baptisms, marriages and deaths.

Glenna Virginia Ginny Seely

Glenna Virginia Ginny Seely, 78, died April 4, 2009, at GrandWood Sunrise Assisted Living.

After several years, they added four boys to the family and moved to Louisburg in 1966 to raise their family in the country. She and her husband were members of the First Christian Church of Louisburg, where their family has shared their baptisms, marriages and deaths.

She was a den mother for Pack 3101 Cub Scouts, supporter of Middlecreek Riding and Roping Club, LHS Booster Club, follower of Louisburg football, wrestling, motor cross racing and various other activities the boys participated in. She was a Kansas City Chiefs season ticket holder for years and shared in the good years of Chiefs winning seasons. They had a summer trailer at Grand Lake of the Cherokees in Grove, Okla., during their working years, and summers were spent entertaining and boating with friends and family. She and her husband took dancing lessons with friends and they were often seen at receptions and clubs cutting the rug.

She worked at Deluxe Checks, from which she retired in 1985, when they relocated full time to Grand Lake of the Cherokees. They enjoyed motorcycle riding and took several trips across the country on their bike to visit different train stations. Traveling took them to Germany to visit a son in the Army several times.

She was an avid reader and ragtagged many a stack of books from the library. She would read while her husband fished for hours. Later they enjoyed Cruise Night with their 89 Mustang convertible once a month in Grove.

They were able to stay in their home until last fall, when Alzheimers finally took its toll and failing health required more care. They moved to GrandWood Sunrise Assisted Living facility, where she received the utmost loving care until she lost her battle and passed away gently with her husband at her side.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Wanda June Hodson, and her youngest son, Kyle Duane in 2002.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 62 years; three sons, Bradley Seely and Mark Seely, both of Louisburg, and Kirt Seely of Mainesville, Ohio; a sister, Laveta Cleveland of Parkville, Mo.; 14 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today at the First Christian Church, 602 N. First St., Louisburg, with visitation from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Louisburg Cemetery.

To leave condolences visit www.penwellgabel.com. Arrangements are by Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, 120 S. Broadway St., Louisburg, KS, (913) 837-4310.

The family suggests contributions to the Alzheimers Association.
