George Ayers Seely

George Ayers Seely, son of Charles Henry and Sarah Dina Seely, was born at Paxton, Ill., Sept. 30, 1860, and departed this life at his home northwest of Manchester Jan. 15, 1950, at the age of 89 years, three months and 15 days.

He came to Kansas in October, 1877, when a youth of seventeen years. His mother came a year later. He and his mother purchased property at Vine Creek. He was a charter member of the Manchester I.O.O.F. lodge. March 22, 1883, he was united in marriage to Jennie Jones. Two children were born, Charles M. and Etta Ellen. His wife and daughter preceded him in death. He is survived by one son, Charles of Abilene, and four grandchildren, George Seely, jr., and Jennie Ann Sexton of Manchester, and Mrs. Lillian Holt and Miss Neva Esther Seely of Abilene; four great-grandchildren and other relatives and friends.

The funeral service was at 2:30 Tuesday afternoon at the Presbyterian church at Manchester. The Rev. Homer Greene was in charge. Mrs. Clarence Glenn accompanied by Mrs. Myrtle Housel, sang the following selections, “No Night There,” “Going Down the Valley One by One,” and “Sweet By and By.” Pallbearers were Clarence Glenn, Harry Sheets, Harold Morehouse, Edwy Morehouse, Clyde Taylor and John Barta. Burial was in White Cloud cemetery.

GEORGE A. SEELY

George Ayers Seely, 89, pioneer resident of the Manchester community, died Sunday morning at his home there. Mr. Seely was born at Paxton, Ill., and came to Dickinson county in 1877. Since that time his home has been in the Manchester community. He was a charter member of the Manchester Odd Fellows lodge.

He leaves one son, C.M. Seely of Abilene, four grandchildren, George Seely and Mrs. Jennie Ann Sexton of Manchester, Mrs. Lillian Holt and Miss Neva E. Seely of Abilene, four great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the Manchester Presbyterian church. The Rev. Homer Greene will officiate and burial will be in the White Cloud cemetery.

The body will remain at the Rasher Funeral Home until time of service.
