Frances Ann (Davis) Seely

(1938-2011)

Frances Ann (Davis) Seely passed away April 16, 2011 in Lakeport after a 10 month battle with cancer. She was born on October 16, 1938 in Dallas, Texas. Her family moved to Upper Lake in the early 40’s when her father went to work hauling lumber out of the Mendocino National Forest.

She attended Upper Lake schools, graduating from Upper Lake High School in 1956. She attended Chico State for two years before moving back to Upper Lake to marry the love of her life Edward E. Seely in 1958. They settled into the agricultural life and raised their family in Upper Lake.

Over her lifetime, Frances was a Cub Scout leader, a founding member and past president of the Lake County’s chapter of California Women for Agriculture. She especially enjoyed the legislative visits to Sacramento working for positive change for agriculture. She was an eight year member of the school board for Upper Lake High School serving as president for part of her term. She also served two terms for the Lake County Grand Jury. As a young woman, she was an accomplished water skier. Her love of skiing transitioned to the snow as she and her family took many snow skiing vacations with friends. She was a dedicated wife and mother and was proud of the family and business she and Ed had built together. She was the bookkeeper for the business for 40 years. She and Ed enjoyed many vacations together traveling the world to South America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and China. She was passionate about politics and enjoyed good political debate with friends.

Frances is survived by her husband of 52 years, Edward Seely of Upper Lake, her brother Fred Davis of Fresno, her children Jeff Seely of Upper Lake, Colleen (Norman) Rentsch of Lakeport, Eric (Cherie) Seely of Kelseyville and grandchildren Jessica, Stephen, Allison, Mitchell, Justin and Ryan. She was predeceased by her parents Elmer and N.R. “Dixie” Davis.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, April 25, 2011 at 11 a.m. at the Upper Lake Cemetery.

Donations may be made to “ULHS-Lights of Love” to help fund stadium lighting at Upper Lake High School, 9550 Clover Valley Rd., Upper Lake.
