Emma Jo (Hunt) Seely

Emma Jo (Hunt) Seely, 86, former Wichita and Winfield resident, retired teacher, former Wichita Southeast High School librarian and Institute of Logopedics house mother, died Friday, Oct. 26, 1990. Services was Monday.

Survivors: sons, Arthur D. of Birmingham, Ala., Gene S. of Baldwin City; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren. Memorial has been established with Aldersgate Village. Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home.

EMMA SEELY

Services for Emma Jo Hunt Seely, 86, Topeka, will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Susanna Wesley United Methodist Church in Topeka. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday at Highland Cemetery in Winfield.

Mrs. Seely died Friday at a Topeka retirement community. She was born Feb. 8, 1904, at Valley Center.

She had lived in Topeka the last eight years.

She was a 1922 graduate of Winfield High School and a 1926 graduate of Southwestern College, also at Winfield. She received a master of arts degree in library science from the University of Denver in 1958.

Mrs. Seely lived in Wichita from 1951 to 1970. She was head librarian at Southeast High School in Wichita when she retired in 1967. She then worked as a house mother for the Institute of Logopedics in Wichita.

She was a member of Susanna Wesley United Methodist Church in Topeka, a former member of the Wichita City Teachers Assn., a former National delegate to the National Educators Assn., member of Business and Professional Womens Club at Wichita, National Association of Retired Teachers, and American Association of Retired Persons.

She married Arthur J. Seely on July 15, 1927, at Winfield. He died Nov. 22, 1953.

Survivors include two sons, Arthur D. Seely, Birmingham, Ala., and Gene S. Seely, Baldwin; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Aldersgate Village, 7220 S.W. Asbury Dr., Topeka 66614.

Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home of Topeka is in charge of arrangements.
