AKRON, Iowa – Eldon M. Seely, 74, of Akron died Monday, March 26, 2001, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at Union Creek Lutheran Church in rural Akron, S.D., with the Rev. Steve Larson officiating. Burial will be in Union Creek Lutheran Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Hoschler Post 186 of Akron, Iowa. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 8 p.m., at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron, Iowa.
Mr. Seely was born July 27, 1926, in Union County, S.D., the son of Lester and Hanna (Johnson) Seely. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954, stationed in Fort McClellan, Ala.
He married Alma Wyatt on July 10, 1949, in rural Akron, S.D. The couple farmed in the Union County area until moving to Akron, Iowa, in 1987. He was then employed with Higman Sand and Gravel for 10 years.
He was a member of Union Creek Lutheran Church, where he served as treasurer and on the church council. He served on the board of directors of Farmers Union (Cinex) Oil Co. in Alcester, S.D. and Sioux Valley Township. He was a charter member of Union County Livestock Producers board and a member of American Legion Hoschler Post 186.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters and their husbands, Marsha and Roger McGraw and Marlene and Robert Gries, all of Sioux City; a son and his wife, Myron and Michelle of Le Mars, Iowa; four grandchildren, Shari and Robert Gries Jr. and Cody and Tawny Seely; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Orville; and two sisters, Vera Peterson and Lorene Hinrichs.
Pallbearers will be Brad and Chuck Vreugdenhil, Randy Kjose, Don Feauto, Alan Sommervold and Dwight Fickbohm.
