Douglas Eugene Seely

CUYUNA — Douglas Eugene Seely, 75, Cuyuna, died Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, at home.

He was born May 23, 1926, in Staples to Jess and Ethel (Nichols) Seely. He married Lila Jeannette Beach on April 2, 1971, in Watertown, S.D. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Myrin James American Legion Post 443 of Ironton. They were former owners and operators of the Smoke House in Deerwood, the Woodtick Inn in Cuyuna and Lila J’s Riverside in Crosby.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Keith Seely and Kraig Seely, both of Crosby; two daughters, Julene Matthies, Denver, and Janelle Stanton, Crosby; three brothers, Lewis Seely, St. Peter, Richard Seely, Cleveland, Mn., and Russell Seely, Castleton, N.D.; and three sisters, Marie Schmidt, Philbrook, Phylis Wendelschafer, Portland, Ore., and Joan Hagberg, Crosby.

His parents died earlier.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Cascade United Methodist Church in Deerwood with the Rev. Wane Souhrada officiating. Burial will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in Motley Cemetery. Military honors will be given by the Myrin James American Legion Post No. 443 in Ironton.

Friends may call from 5-7 p.m. Monday at Koop Funeral Home in Crosby and an hour before services Tuesday at the church.
