Dorothy H. Seely
Was born August 20, 1917 in Sayre, PA, the daughter of the late Hurley and Juliette (Smith) Henson, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 25, 2011 at the Chemung County Nursing Facility at the age of 94.
Her first husband, LaRue Seely, second husband, James Wrisley, and brother, Carl Henson, predeceased her. She is survived by her children, Richard (Catherine) Seely of Horseheads, NY; Roslyn Lawrence of Horseheads, NY; Gary Seely of Elmira, NY; David Seely of Cape Coral, FL; along with 10 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Mary Henson two nieces and one nephew.
For many years, Dorothy worked with her husband LaRue at L. W. Seely and Son Taylors as a seamstress. Upon retirement they settled in Sarasota, FL where they enjoyed many wonderful years together. In her earlier years she belonged to the couples club at the former Centenary United Methodist Church. Dorothy was an avid bingo player as well.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Ave., Elmira/Southport, NY on Friday, October 28, 2011 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Funeral services honoring her life will follow the visitation at 6 PM. The Reverend Michael Weeden will celebrate Dorothy’s services. Interment will take place at the convenience of her family in Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Chemung County Nursing Facility Activities Fund 103 Washington Street Elmira, NY 14901. The Seely family wishes to express their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the 4th floor at the Chemung County Nursing Facility for the outstanding love and care given to Dorothy.
