Donald Randolph Seely

Donald Randolph Seely, age 84, died on October 9, 2012. He was reared in San Diego, CA, and graduated from Pomona College with a degree in geology. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Air Force during the Korean War. After returning from service he earned both his Master’s and PhD degrees in structural geology from the University of Oklahoma.

Don is survived by Mary, his wife of 58 years; daughter D’Anne Seely Carpenter and husband Charles of Detroit; daughter Nancy Seely of Nova Scotia; son Daniel Seely and wife Cynthia of Seattle; four grandchildren, Claire and Craig Carpenter and Jennifer and Katherine Seely, and one sister.

Don’s professional career included being a professor of geology at Oklahoma City University and a research scientist at Exxon Production Research Company. He was an avid tennis player, loved laughter, music, adventure, the mountains, camping and hiking. Don’s great intellect was constantly seeking to illuminate the deepest understanding of whatever subject he found engaging.

Memorial Service will be held Sunday, October 21 at 1:30 PM at St. Thomas Presbyterian Church, 14100 Memorial Drive.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Parkinson Foundation of Harris County, 7457 Harwin, Suite 308, Houston, TX 77036

The family would like to thank Demetria Williams for her dedicated caregiving during the past four years, the caring staff of Memorial-Hermann Home Health and Memorial-Hermann Hospice.
