Dean Hansen Seely

Dean Hansen Seely, 85, passed away Sunday, Dec. 20, 2015, at his home near St. Anthony from natural causes.

Dean was born Dec. 25, 1929, in St. Anthony, Idaho, the son of Ferry Randolph and Oneta Hansen Seely. He grew up on a farm in the Twin Groves area and attended school in St. Anthony and at Utah State University and received a bachelor’s degree at BYU.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. He was honorably discharged in April of 1955.

He married Leila “Lee” June Sorensen on June 17, 1955, in the Manti Utah LDS Temple. Dean was a farmer in the Twin Groves area. He started teaching in California and served as the principal at Parker School and was a teacher in the St. Anthony Junior High School. He owned a hotel in West Yellowstone, Montana, where he also rented out snowmobiles for the winter. He also enjoyed riding his four-wheeler around the farm. Dean also had his pilot’s license. They lived in Provo, Utah; California; West Yellowstone, Montana; and Idaho. Dean has been an active member of the LDS Church.

He is survived by his wife, Lee, of Twin Groves, Idaho; children Scott Ferrell Seely (Susan), of Logan, Utah; Bryce Glen Seely (Connie), of Royal City, Washington; JoLinda Hansen (Cornell), of Rexburg, Idaho; and Robert Boyd Seely (Jill), of Twin Groves, Idaho; three siblings, Sylvan Seely (Gail), of Rexburg, Idaho; Donna Bright Linford, of Bountiful, Utah; and Clyde Seely (Linda), of West Yellowstone, Montana; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons: Richard Dean Seely and Bradford Lee Seely.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2015, at l p.m. in the St. Anthony Idaho LDS Stake Center with Bishop Wade Geisler, of the Twin Groves First Ward, officiating. Friends may call at the church Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. just prior to the services. Burial will be in the Parker Cemetery, where military rites will be performed by the St. Anthony V.F.W. and American Legion.
