Dan Richard Seely

GREEN RIVER–Dan Richard Seely, 40, died on October 26, 1996 in Anchorage, Alaska.

He was born November 11, 1955 in Fruita, Colorado, a son of Norman Richard and Dixie Cottrell Seely. He married Deborah S. Walters, October 28, 1995 in Anchorage. He was a member of the LDS Church, and served an LDS Mission in Idaho, Washington and Oregon. Dan died in the line of duty, doing what he loved to do. He was a 10 year veteran of the Anchorage Police Dept.

He is survived by wife; his parents, of Green River; two sisters, Sheree Gilley of Florida; and Lorraine Martin of Colorado; one brother, David Seely, of Colorado; grandfather, Lorin Milton, of Wyoming; and five nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Funeral services will be Thursday, October 31, 1996 at noon in the Green River LDS Chapel, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Price City Cemetery, under the direction of Fausett Mortuary of Price.

Anchorage police officer Dan Richard Seely, 40, died Oct. 26, 1996, at Providence Alaska Medical Center as a result of injuries sustained in the line of duty.

A funeral service is planned for 6:30 p.m. today at Anchorage Baptist Temple, with Police Chief Dennis O’Leary officiating. Pallbearers will include members of the Anchorage Police Department Honor Guard. Additional services will be held at noon Thursday in the Green River L.D.S. Chapel and burial will be in the Price City Cemetery, under the direction of Fausett Mortuary of Price, Utah.

Officer Seely was born Nov. 11, 1955, in Fruita, Colo., to Norman Richard and Dixie Cottrell Seely. A graduate of Brigham Young University and member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Dan served an L.D.S. mission in Idaho, Washinghton and Oregon.

A 14-year resident of Anchorage, Dan was a 10-year veteran with the Anchorage Police Department. He was A.P.D. Officer of the Quarter for June 1996.

Dan’s special interests were focused on supporting the community, family and children.

His family said, ”Even though Dan’s life was prematurely ended, he was able to accomplish achievements beyond his years, always living life with integrity and enthusiasm. A compassionate and understanding man, his willingness to take the extra effort for the community, his fellow officers, and his family will be sorely missed.”

Officer Seely is survived by his wife, Debbie Walters Seely of Anchorage; parents, Richard and Dixie Seely of Price; brother, David Seely of Colorado; and sisters, Sherree Gilley of Florida and Lorraine Martin of Colorado. He also leaves his grandfather Lorin Milton, and five nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations may be directed to the Dan Seely Unborn Child Trust Account, in care of A.P.D., 4501 S. Bragaw St., Anchorage 99507. In addition, anyone with special memories or photographs of Dan is welcome to write a letter to Baby Seely, in care of A.P.D.

Arrangements in Anchorage were by Evergreen Memorial Chapels.
