Christine “Chris” Seely

April 10, 1928 – Dec. 20, 2008

A memorial is planned for a later date for Christine “Chris” Seely, 80, of Sitkum. Inurnment will be at the Dora Cemetery with a private family graveside service.

Chris was born April 10, 1928, in Amite, La., the eldest of nine children (six brothers and two sisters) of Riley McDaniel and Maude Bennett. She died Dec. 20, 2008, at Sacred Heart Hospital of age-related causes.

Chris married George Manford Seely on Aug. 27, 1947, and had four children, Carolyn Schwab of Roseburg, Marilynn Hilderbrand of Monmouth, Cheryl Seely and George G. Seely both of Myrtle Point.

Chris joined the Eastern Star in 1949, and remained active all of her life. At the time of her death, she was a member of Beulah Chapter in Coquille. She lived with her husband for 35 years on a ranch in Sitkum, having purchased the property in 1963 after traveling over the old Coos Bay wagon road on a Saturday outing. During her years in the Dora-Sitkum community, she was very active in all the community happenings, most recently helping with the fundraising for the new fire hall currently being constructed in Dora. Chris was a career military wife and teacher and once retired to Sitkum, helped out in the Myrtle Point School District by substitute teaching from time to time.

Chris is survived by seven siblings, Riley, Wiley, Eugene, Wilton, Milton, Clifford and Juanita; four children, Carolyn, Marilyn, Cheryl and George; five grandchildren, Bryce, Brooke, Megan, Joshua and Aaron; and five great-grandchildren, Brennan, Brayden, Joren, Pheloni and Pheron.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Riley and Maude; husband, George; and sister, Laura.
