Carol Seely

Carol Seely of Loveland, CO, a homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother, died Thursday, February 7, due to complications stemming from Parkinson’s disease. She was 71.

The daughter of the late Arthur R. and Marguruite Turkstra, she was born and raised in Chicago, IL. She was a graduate of Hope College in Holland, MI with a degree in teaching. Carol taught elementary students until her husband, Edward, graduated from seminary. In spite of her success as a teacher, she always felt her true calling was to be a devoted wife and mother to her two children. She dedicated herself to doing all she could to raise her children to be followers of their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

She was a vital part of her husband’s ministry, volunteering countless hours in the three churches they served and at Calvin Theological Seminary, where he taught prior to retirement. Carol’s ministry included teaching, starting and maintaining a state-of-the-art church library, and mentoring international students learning English.

Carol is survived by her husband Dr. Edward Seely of Loveland; daughter Janet Sandberg, of Loveland; son Jonathan Seely, of Grand Rapids, MI; two brothers, John Turkstra of St. John, IN and Alan Turkstra of Tinley Park, IL; and two grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Viegut Funeral Home in Loveland. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 4650 Sunview Dr., Loveland. Pastor Glen Schlecht will officiate. Internment is to be at Loveland Burial Park. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in Carol’s memory to Immanuel Lutheran Church.
