Bertha Seely

Mrs. James L. Seely passed away quietly in her sleep Wednesday night or Thursday morning. When her husband entered her room Thursday morning to awaken her, he sensed at once that life had passed.

Mrs. Seely had been in failing health for several years having spent much time for the past seven years in various hospitals and clinics.

Mrs. Seely, daughter of the late Albert and Almera LaMountain, was born in Altona, November 11th, 1907, and spent her early youth in Lyon Mountain. On October 1st, 1924, she married James L. Seely in Saranac Lake. To them were born 2 girls and two sons. They came to Elizabethtown January 2, 1929. Mr. Seely was employed as a Test Board man in the local station of the A.T. and T. company.

The young couple lived in several rented houses and in 1935 they purchased the John James property on the New Russia Road where they have continued to reside until the present time.

Mrs. Seely a devout Catholic, was a member of St. Elizabeth’s Church and the Altar and Rosary Society of which she also was a Past President. Although quiet and unassuming, she possessed a sunny disposition, and an upright character and seemed to find her chief delight in doing a kindness for, and lending a helping hand to others. She was a wonderful wife, mother and homemaker, her family being her first concern always. She was a real neighbor and friend to all who knew her.

Besides her husband she is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Thomas Quinlan of Conn., and Mrs. Donald Herring of Wassaic, N.Y., two brothers, Edward, of Washington, D.C., and David of Albany; three sisters, Helen Amadoe of Albany, Dorothy Vrbanac of Albany, and Catherine Sweezy of Long Island, Also seven grandchildren.

Friday evening the Altar and Rosary members met with the family, at the Marvin Funeral Home to say the Rosary, led by Father Nichols.

Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 10 o’clock at St. Elizabeth’s Church, Father Nichols officiating.

The bearers were Roger Bartlett, Richard Burpee, John Brien, Harry Johnson, Earl Scripture, and Jesse Denton. Burial was in St. Elizabeth’s Cemetery.

Sympathy is extended to this bereaved family.
