Box Elder Educator Dies at 65

BRIGHAM CITY – A. Elwyn Seely, 65, of 118 E. Forest, Box Elder County educator, died Sunday morning at his home of a heart ailment.

Mr. Seely was born March 7, 1900, in East Millcreek, Salt Lake County, a son of Arta M. and Alfretta Neff Seely. He was married to Pansy Urada Barker on Oct. 19, 1921, in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

He graduated from Box Elder High School in 1921 and attended the University of Utah.

Teaching Career

He began teaching at Park Valley, and was an elementary principal at Penrose, Harper Ward, Honeyville and Willard. He was principal of Box Elder Junior High School and vice principal of Box Elder High School. He retired last year as principal of the Bunderson School in Brigham City.

Mr. Seely was chairman of the public relations committee of the Utah Education Association and a national committee member, representing Utah. He served two terms as president of the Principals Association of Box Elder County.

Charter Member

He was a member of the Box Elder Chamber of Commerce, charter member and former president of Brigham Lions Club. In 1951 he was elected district governor of Utah, Lions International. He was a member of the LDS Church and served on the South Box Elder Sunday School Stake Board and was Boy Scout commissioner for five years.

Surviving are his widow, the follow sons and daughters; Mrs. John G. (Ardus) Hazen, Sacramento, Calif.; Dwayne E. (Bud) Seely, Mrs. LaMar D. (Jacki) Kirby, both of Ogden; Dr. J. Rodman Seely, Oklahoma City, Okla.; Mrs. Robert F. (Adele) Beal, Sunset; Miss Sharyn Seely, Michael Shann Seely, both of Brigham City; 16 grandchildren, the following Brothers and sisters: F. Leland Seely, Brigham City; Mrs. Ken (Verna) Carter, Rapid City, S.D.; Mrs. Duane (Leola) Anderson, San Bernardino, Calif.; Grant Seely, San Diego, Calif.

Rites Wednesday

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. in the Brigham First Ward Chapel. Friends may call at the Harold B. Felt Funeral Home Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday prior to services. Burial will be in Brigham City Cemetery.
