Garden Motif Graces Seeley-Staples Vows

Ojai Debutante and Southland Man Wed Before Taper-Lighter Altar in Chapel

Yellow and white marguerites and woodwardia fern in a garden motif lighted only by the soft glow of tall, white tapers, was the setting for the late afternoon wedding of Nancy Jane Staples, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harry Roderick Staples of Ojai and Los Angeles, and Walter Eli Seeley Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Eli Seeley, in Shatto Chapel of the First Congregational Church.

The bride chose a gown of white marquisette with a long basque bodice, a white marquisette yoke trimmed with Chantilly lace, and a full, hoop skirt with a bustle of Chantilly lace.  She wore a fingertip tulle veil and carried a shower bouquet of white orchids falling from a white prayer book.

Wedding Aides

Miss Mary Martindale flew from her home in Lansing, Mich., for the wedding, to be maid of honor, while bridesmaids were Misses Mary Heinzelman, Amy Jarvis, Mary Ann Bennett and Sandra Seeley.  All were dressed alike in candy-striped pink, yellow and white chintz frocks with full, hoop skirts and puffed sleeves.  The maid of honor wore a wreath of marguerites in her hair and all of the girls carried bouquets of yellow and white marguerites.

Enos Denhan of Michigan served as best man and Rev. John Bryant of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church officiated.

Reception Held

Following the ceremony there was a reception at the home of the bride’s uncle and aunt, Dr. and Mrs. Irving Bancroft, 711 S. Harvard Blvd.

After a honeymoon trip the newlyweds will be at home in Westwood Hills.

The bride attended Westlake School for Girls and has studied voice for the past four years.

Mr. Seeley attended the University of Washington.
