Margaret Steele, age 89, of Fruita, CO, died Monday, January 7, 2013, after a long illness. She was at the Grand Valley Care Lodge, located in Grand Junction. Memorial services will be held Sunday, January 13, at Callahan-Edfast Mortuary Chapel in Grand Junction at 2:00 p.m. Margaret was a retired nurse. She worked at Lower Valley Hospital for 40 years. After retiring, she worked part time at Family Health West. Margaret was born November 9, 1923, in Winfield, Kansas to Ira E. Seeley and Stella McEwen. She moved to the Glade Park area in 1928, then the Appleton area in 1935, where she attended high school and graduated in 1942. She was married to Rudolph Steele, the love of her life, on May 11, 1943. Margaret loved life, living to the fullest. She enjoyed fishing, bowling leagues, traveling, and later in life, her grandchildren and reading. Margaret and Rudy were snowbirds in Bullhead City, AZ where they both loved a little gambling. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudy, and brother, Kenneth Eugene Seeley. Survivors include children, Peggy Schmeltz of Telluride; Trish “Patsy” Sommers, and Mike Steele of Grand Junction; six grandchildren, Bremen Schmeltz, Chelsea Schmeltz, Ian Dyslin, Mckenzie Wells, Brandy Lostalo and Matt Steele, and eight great-grandchildren; brother, Ralph “Buster” Seeley, and sister-in-law, Thelma Seeley. Memorial contributions may be made to Alpine Hospice or Grand View Care Lodge, c/o Callahan-Edfast Mortuary.
