Chesley Kent Seely

January 9, 1925 – August 25, 2013

Chesley “Kent” Seely, 88, of Sturgeon Bay, was called home Sunday morning (August 25, 2013) while at Cardinal Ridge CBRF.

He was born January 9, 1925 in Mount Pleasant, UT, the son of the late Chesley and Gladys Italia Ericksen-Seely. Following high school, Kent served in the U.S. Marines during WWII and provided security as a body guard for Admiral Nimitz. He then attended the University of Utah on the GI Bill and was later married to Lucille Florence Reimer on August 9, 1947 at Salt Lake City, UT. He later attended the University of Colorado, University of Maryland, U.W. Milwaukee, and Old Dominion.

Kent was commissioned with the ROTC program and recalled to serve with the U.S. Army and was a battlefield artillery commander during Korea and also during Vietnam. He served his country a total of 23 years, retiring as Major of the U.S. Army.

After serving his country, Kent worked at Magnavox(Phillips) in their Government and Industrial Divisions until his retirement in 1991. They have lived in Sturgeon Bay the past 15 years.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Sturgeon Bay. Kent served on two missions, 18months in Nigeria, West Africa, and 15 years in Chicago at the Mormon Temple.

Kent enjoyed amateur radio, and astronomy. He was a member of the Amateur Radio Club and the Peninsula Astronomical Society.

Survivors include his dear wife, Lucille “Lou” of Sturgeon Bay; four children, Linda (Stephen) Wohler of Wayland, Mass., John R. Seely of Fort Wayne, Indiana, Chesla (Paul) Anschutz of Sturgeon Bay, Robert K. (Shelli) Seely of Gannett, Idaho; six grandchildren, Justin S. (Jessica) Wohler, Stephanie M. Wohler, Sean (Jessica) Seely (and their son, Skylar), Colton Seely, Phillip and Bruce Anschutz; and brother, John H. (Janice) Seely of Tucson, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Willa Reiser.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, (August 31, 2013) at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Sturgeon Bay with President David Robertson officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Bayside Cemetery.

Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at 11:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his memory to Unity Hospice, Alzheimer’s Research, or LDS Missionary’s.
